BJJ Video Tips: Finishing Straight Armbars from Spider Web / Mount

I have decided to make and post more videos. They really help me get my point across but more importantly, they help start a discussion from the blog readers.

Here is a short video I made with my brother Mr Sam Wandi demonstrating how a weight management principle I picked up in Yoga can be applied to positions and submissions in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. To demonstrate the point, I use the straight armbar. Please let me know what you think:

Interesting. I wouldn't have thought to do that. Looks uncomfortable. Nice video. :)

Thank you Allie. It'd be great if you posted on your Facebook (using the thingi magicki button under the post or the Facebook like-button)

It's something I've used in guard passing, half guard...etc. all top game really and have recently started playing around with in Bottom game.

I'll fb this when I get home and out from under my unreasonably finicky office firewall :)

But I wonder if it works against more seasoned competitors? I just don't know how much pressure it really puts on the neck. And, I wonder how I could do it if I had to grab their pants with my hipside hand (like to prevent them from doing the hitchhiker's escape.)

Nice video though, Liam, and than you for putting it out there! :)

Gonna give this a shot next time I have a chance. I'm always worried about not having enough weight on the torso and this takes care of that nicely.

Thank you very much Georgette both for the kind words and for Fcebooking it.

As for the neck pressure, it deffo puts a lot more pressurs than the alternative (not doing it!). I suggest you control their leg with the same arm, rather than the hipsidde arm. If used at the right angle you can also catch their face towards you so they can'r really hitch hike away from you.

Hmmm, maybe I make a second video? :o)
