Grappling / MMA Product Review: LUTA Fightwear Training Top

LUTA Fightwear is an amazing company that creates fantastic products for all combat sport enthusiasts. They are a for-profit company, but they are unique in that they share their profits with the charity "Fight For Peace"

When Fergus Dullaghan - whom The Part Time Grappler interviewed in two parts here and here - sent me this training top to review, I couldn't resist to make this silly video for it. I am not sponsored by them, but I love their products and the concept they put behind it and think Fergus is a really sound fella. Please visit the fantastically detailed reviews that my good friend Meerkatsu did off the items on his awesome blog for more real information presented in a professional format. Seymour is the man. For silliness, please watch this highly un-informative video :)

I thank my brother Mr Sam Wandi for his excellent acting skillz and support in any crazy endeavour I brew in my weird head.

BJJ / Grappling Interview: Luta Fightwear and Fight For Peace: Mr Fergus Dullaghan Part 2

As I mentioned in an earlier post the Part Time Grappler blog has had the great pleasure to interview a representative for LUTA Fightwear (who are sponsoring our upcoming seminar with former UFC heavyweight champion Mr Frank Mir down at Fight Fit Manchester, Manchester’s premium BJJ and MMA gym) and the global charity Fight For Peace, Mr Fergus Dullaghan. I got my interview questions answered over emails from Fergus but I was so excited by what he had to say that I followed them up with a phone call and man does he have some stories! Here is the second and final part of the interview. I hope you enjoy it.

Part Time Interview

Do you compete in your sport(s)? Have you won any competitions?

Yes quite a few, I won the All-Ireland Judo Championships in January four days after competing in the BJJ Europeans (at blue belt). I've won the Malta Judo Open and London International Judo Open (seni), the Spanish BJJ open and meddled in things like the Scottish, Welsh, Irish and Northern Irish judo opens and placed in the British Judo Open. I've also competed in other judo internationals like the Swiss, Finnish and Swedish opens.

What is the greatest thrill you have gotten out of practicing your sport?

Getting my black belt in judo was good. So was getting my second dan. I also really enjoyed the day I got my invite to join the Welsh team in the post - that meant a lot to me and I still have the letter. At one point I was ranked 4th in the UK (May-Oct.2008) and seeing that result posted on the internet was awesome. But there are other simple things about martial arts that are really great, like the people you meet and the things you learn about yourself and life. I've been very lucky because of the journalism side of things. I've had dinner with Emin Boztepe (Wing Tsun Grand master), chatted on the phone with Ken Shamrock, rolled with Ryron, Royce, Rolker and Kron Gracie at different times, appeared in a video instructional with former world Judo champion Neil Adams (who is one of my coaches), and I'm meeting Mr Frank Mir down at Fight Fit Manchester, Manchester’s premium BJJ and MMA gym).

(Liam's note: If you're just not sure who this Kron (son of Rickson) Gracie character is, check him out in this video clip doing his thang at the 2011 BJJ Mundial!)

BJJ / Grappling Interview: Luta Fightwear and Fight For Peace: Mr Fergus Dullaghan Part 1

Part Time Interview

Hello. Why don’t we start by you telling us a little about yourself? (Name, Age, where you are from)

Hi. My name is Fergus Dullaghan, I've just turned 30 and I'm currently splitting my time between Chelmsford in Essex and Geneva in Switzerland.

Are you currently working / studying? Is that Full time / Part time?

I work in and around martial arts full-time but in various guises; I am the Fight Ambassador Manager for LUTA clothing, I write freelance for several martial arts magazines (like Fighting Fit, Martial Arts Illustrated, Train Hard Fight Easy and others). Additionally I run a training blog (http://www.intothefire.org.uk/) and I'm also doing some other martial arts-based translation and writing projects.

You also set aside time to practice a sport. Which sport(s)?

Judo mostly, but also some BJJ and submission wrestling. Every now and then I do some striking - I used to do a lot as a kid (Karate/kickboxing/savate and Wing Tsun) - but I don't have the time to take it seriously now, so I just do it occasionally for fun.

BJJ / Grappling Interview: Luta Fightwear and Fight For Peace: Mr Fergus Dullaghan introduces LUTA and Fight For Peace

I recently had the pleasure of getting to know and interview Mr Fergus Dullaghan. Fergus is a Judo international, BJJ player but more importantly heavily involved in both the fightgear brand LUTA and the global charity Fight For Peace. I will publish my interview with Fergus during the week but for now, I asked Fergus to give us an introduction to why and how he got involved with these two brands, LUTA and Fight For Peace.
"I first discovered LUTA at Seni in 2010. I'd been competing there in the London International Judo event (which I won btw ;) and was due to interview Royce Gracie the following day. So once I finished fighting I took the time to wander around and familiarise myself with everything at the show.
